JOHANNESBURG - Search engine Google said on Friday that South Africans were starting to ask some very specific questions around the elections, with some indicating concern, as the 2019 general election draws closer on May 8.

"Will South Africa go into the elections peacefully?" has made it into the top 10 questions South Africans asked the Google Search engine this week.

This was alongside other questions around the type of electoral system the country has, how many ballot papers there are for the election, and how many people have registered to vote.

The African National Congress, Economic Freedom Fighters, and the Black First Land First made up the top three most searched political parties on Google last week while Julius Malema, Cyril Ramaphosa, Mmusi Maimane, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, and Mangosuthu Buthelezi made up the top five candidates.

Search trends information is gleaned from data collated by Google based on what South Africans have been searching for and asking Google.

Google processes more than 40,000 search queries every second. This translates to more than a billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide.

Among the top 10 questions asked on Google about the elections in South Africa this week were:

- When is election day 2019 South Africa?;

- Is election day a public holiday?;

- Who will win the 2019 elections?;

- How many parties registered for 2019 elections?;

- How many ballot papers for general election?;

- What is a by-election?;

- Will South Africa go into elections peacefully?;

- What type of electoral system does South Africa currently use?; and

- How many registered voters in South Africa?

‘Game of Thrones’ Confusion: Lots of Google Users Have No Idea How Jon Snow and Daenerys Are Related - TheWrap

Posted: 11 Apr 2019 02:45 PM PDT

"Game of Thrones" is a confusing show, we'll admit that. So confusing that even we sometimes have to use Google to fact-check the many, many plot points and character details from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss' HBO fantasy series. But after looking at the search engine's data regarding the show, well, we have some questions about your questions.

According to stats provided to TheWrap by Google, among the most-Googled questions related to "Game of Thrones" in the U.S. between March 28 and April 4 was, "How are Jon Snow and Daenerys related?"

OK, so this proves that 592 days after the Season 7 finale, some viewers are still confused about what was revealed in the final moments of the episode: that Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen — Daenerys' (Emilia Clarke) older brother — and Lyanna Stark.

Just to be clear, that means Jon is not Ned Stark's bastard son, he is Dany's nephew. She is his aunt. Understood? Good.

Now you can check out the other most-Googled "Game of Thrones" question below, which reveal that not everyone knows Season 8 premieres this Sunday at 9/8c on HBO.

Bitcoin Becomes 7th Most Searched Term on Google USA: Are The Bulls Back? - CryptoPotato

Posted: 03 Apr 2019 12:00 AM PDT

Bitcoin continues its positive rally, seeing yet another day in the green and retesting the $5000 resistance for the second time in two days. The cryptocurrency is currently trading around $4,930, while its total market cap is close to $87 billion. BTC dominance had decreased to 50.7% after recording 51.6% yesterday.

As its price continues to crawl up, the public interest is also seemingly gaining steam.

Bitcoin: 7th Most Searched Term in The US

Data from the search mogul's trending resource, Google Trends, reveals that Bitcoin has managed to climb up to the 7th most searched term in Google USA.

With over 100,000 searches recorded on April 2nd, Bitcoin has surpassed particularly trending terms which traditionally dominate the public interest such as Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift.

As seen on the chart, not only is Bitcoin more trending, but interest in it is twice as much than that for Kardashian and absolutely dwarfs the trends compared to popular singer Taylor Swift.

In terms of locations, Bitcoin is trending most in Hawaii, Nevada, California, and Washington.

Naturally, the related searches are all associated with the recent spike in Bitcoin's price, with terms such as "why did Bitcoin go up today", "why Bitcoin is up today", and "why is Bitcoin rising", dominating the most searched keywords.

Besides the price surge, Bitcoin concludes a fabulous week, as the term was searched on Google roughly 113% more times than last week.

Are The Bulls Preparing to Charge?

While the increasing public interest in Bitcoin is typically considered to be a positive sign, as we know from the recent but highest crypto bubble so far during the end of 2017, it's challenging to determine whether the sentiment is turning bullish or not solely based on that. The truth is that, historically, the interest in Bitcoin tends to move with its price, so when the price surges, so do the public interest.

On the other hand, as Cryptopotato reported yesterday, the recent surge was also backed by massive volumes. In fact, the volumes on Binance, the world's leading cryptocurrency exchange, reached its all-time high yesterday. Moreover, industry proponents are seemingly advocating for a bottom, as well as the start of a new bull run.

Yesterday's BTC price spike also saw the breakout of the significant resistance level around the $4,200 area, as well as the breach of the 200-MA line which was around $4,600. Notably, Bitcoin is facing resistance at the $5,000 range, so it would be interesting to see where it goes from here.
